Pathology of the Clinical Syndromes Associated with the Equine Ovary
Event Description
Pathology of equine ovaries presented at busy laboratories is best appreciated with knowledge of current functional embryology, anatomy, and physiology of the young and aging ovary. Moreover, better, and more accurate diagnoses results from collaboration between basic science and clinical sciences, including husbandry. This begins with proper sample selection and history presentation in the field and ends with proper interpretation of the lesions to give a usable diagnosis, epicrisis or prognosis. Collaboration between disciplines and institutions should be a goal in research. The most common diagnoses and misdiagnoses involving the mare’s ovary observed and developing over the last three decades will be presented and discussed. This talk is aimed at being a concentrated “primer” for all those who work with mare ovaries.
